Viola Muse is a series showcasing and celebrating the women who inspire us. This month, we chatted to Jenna Holmes, or as you may know her, Plant Mama. Jenna is an interior plant designer, stylist and creative-green-thumb dedicated to creating houseplant culture through the aesthetic exploration of indoor greens. Jenna shared with us some inspiring and wise words on how to embrace the best, truest and most happy version of yourself.
You know we’re inspired by you. Who inspires you and why?
Fellow ass-kicking women, in all creative and unique forms. I really have a deep appreciation and connection to this wave of women, who at this moment in time are coming through and owning who they are and excelling at what they do.
What advice would you give your younger self, or what’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
I was once told to “Be responsible for the energy that you bring to every space.” It is incredibly simple, but incredibly powerful.
What does beauty mean to you?
I think beauty is when you see someone’s face light up talking about something they love. Whether it’s a parent talking about their kids or the random nursery lady who spends five hours talking to me about her favourite fern – seeing people passionate about something life has given them is how I see beauty.
What daily rituals, practices or things help you feel like the best version of yourself?
Every day I will blast music at some point and have a little groove, I feel like all the moving and grooving around automatically puts me in a chipper mood. It’s people like Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and Queen who get me to the best version of myself.
Finish this sentence:
I want to wake up feeling… grateful.
